Went there to adopt a cat. Kittens are also available. Must visit. Great vibe with animals all around you.
Yogesh Singh (☆ 5/5)

We visited CARE as a CSR event from office and were really impressed by the work being done by CARE. They are having a fully functional hospital and recovery facility for strays(dogs, cats, goats, pigs) and all animals are very well taken care of. Most dogs in the centre have lost a limb or have some ailments but still are very happy and playful.
They also have bags, mugs, and some stationary items with CARE branding the proceeds from which are used for the center’s operation. You can also sponsor an animal for a year if you like.
Arjun Ankathil (☆ 5/5)

I volunteered here for a bit over a week while I was travelling in India. I had a fantastic experience spending time with the dogs, cats, farm animals and other rescued cuties. CARE has obviously maximised their space to provide as many medical and socialising facilities as possible for their animals, some of whom will likely be there for the rest of their lives. I highly recommend volunteering here, but also adopting locally for those who have a stable home and love to give.
Anna Bel. (☆ 5/5)

Hi my visit was not good. As yesterday I had taken a street kitten to the place but the person who came to talk to me did not even show the concern to take a look at the kitten. He started tell there is not space, but I request him to atleast give it first-aid so that I will take it back. But he refused and directed me to some other private pet clinic. This is very disheartening to see a NGO staff have not concern to save a animal life, with out even see the aminal or to consulting with the doctor, he him self takes a decision and tell us to take it to some other pet clinic. This happened on a public holiday where it is difficult to find a function pet clinic on this days.
Srinath Keloth sathyanathan (☆ 1/5)

Signed up as a trainee volunteer and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s such a great organisation that genuinely cares for the animals and I feel grateful to be a part of it. Whether you just want to spend some time with animals or adopt a dog/cat and give it a new home, this is the place to be. Great people, excellent facilities and the most adorable animals.
Aarushi Goel (☆ 5/5)

From the moment you enter, you’re welcomed not just by the friendly team but also by the happy tails and wagging paws of dogs, cats, and even a few unique residents like goats and birds. The staff and volunteers are incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable, and always ready to share heartwarming rescue stories that stay with you long after your visit.
What makes CARE truly special is their commitment to not only rescuing animals but also rehabilitating and finding them loving forever homes. They also run awareness programs, allow volunteering, and even have a small on-site store where proceeds go toward animal care.
Whether you’re looking to adopt, volunteer, donate, or just spend a day spreading love among animals who truly deserve it, CARE is the place to go. Every visit makes a real impact.
Highly recommended for families, students, and anyone who wants to experience the joy of helping anima

Blessed to be there in my life a very special day and that is my marriage anniversary…
This is near Varthur, Whitefield, mahadebpur……..
So many other animals also like goats, dogs, birds…..
People can donat also.
There so many families are there who is take care of all work. If someone wants to give old clothes, toys , stationary and other items they can give here.
Shilpa Soni (☆ 5/5)

This place is simply amazing. They have cows, hen, goats. You can feed any animal there.
They even provide you with the animals’ food in free, and you can also take whatever you want to feed their.
There is no compulsion on donation
There are kids of workers their to whom also you can give anything.
They recommend not to give anything to staff inside and donate to the ngo.
Good place. Must visit
mansi goyal (☆ 5/5)

I visited this Goshaala today
– Very neatly maintained
– More than 300 cows and buffaloes are there I think
– And many cute cute calves are there
– More than 200 oxes also there and also hens, goats and other animals
– This is also kind of cow business but I felt like they are taking care of the animals very well
– They’ll get enough milk also which they’ll sell and manage the Goshala
– They’ll give u a bason of food to feed for free as soon as you enter
– You can carry veggies and other edible stuff for cows to feed from outside as well
– You can order the grass prior to visiting so grass load will be delivered to the Goshaala
I felt like this is a very well managed place for animals
They have prepared it like they run the place without donations too.
Kind people are donating as well which will make it motivated for them also to take care of the animals easily
My eyes and heart are filled by seeing this genuine place in namma Bengaluru ❤️
Hope at any point they will not abuse the animals for any reason. They will take care of them well

This is such a beautiful place where we feel that we are one with the nature.
There arr many varieties of animals like cows, ox, buffalo, hens, rabbits, and goats.
Animal lovers are gonna enjoy this place!

Good place, very well maintained Goshala. There are various animals like Cow, Buffalo, Bull, goats and birds like Peacocks.
You can feed cows, they have proper food available that you can serve yourself to cows. Kids will love this place.
They maintain proper track of number of animals they have in one black board near entrance. I visited during rainy day, so place was bit dirty but its expected to be like that. Otherwise overall good place to visit with kids, you can easily spend 3-4 hours if your kid likes cows.

Very shady place, first they charge money to accept any dogs and then promise the best of treatment. Later they refuse to give any details not even share a picture of the animals they take. Further you are allowed to visit their shelter. Even if you go to adopt they bring out few dogs to look out. God knows what is going inside this place. Are they putting the animals to sleep once they take the money. What else could be the reason for not sharing any pic or photo of the poor dogs taken by them. I checked with 7-8 other shelters to see if this is the process with them also but none of them have this weird policy like syerra. Something really fishy going on there. If you want to get the animals killed then give to them.

I found a cat yesterday near to my house, she is friendly and healthy. Seems like someone has left her in street, she is mixed Persian with white color and blue eyes. I already have one cat and she is very scared of this new one, so please help me adopting her. I can’t leave her in Street.

I took in a puppy which was abandoned in front of my gate or probably lost and it’s motherless now I took it to the vet and has its supplies since we cannot keep dogs I have to make sure it goes to some shelter where it’s taken care of… I have called n number of organizations if they could take it in and haven’t had any luck so far… I cannot leave that puppy out on its own it won’t survive as it’s jus 2 months old kindly take the puppy in without whopping charges but a reasonable price… else I’d be forced to leave the puppy somewhere as I cannot keep it… I am appalled to see that most of the organizations that are “dog rescue” organizations are all about money this way I am thinking I shouldn’t have rescued the puppy

It is the best decision I took to place my little baby girl here. The process was smooth and stress-free. The grave diggers understand the emotions and took the greatest care from taking her to the grave site, to placing her there.
I literally went there unprepared. They got the white shroud, candle, incense sticks and even flowers.
The way it was done was beautiful and gives me peace forever.
Thank you so much for the memorable experience. I owe you.

People for Animals (PFA)is not just an organization;it is a movement driven by pure compassion and unwavering commitment to the Voiceless they do not arrive with expectations, nor do they measure their service in currency. Instead, they offer their hands, their time, and their hearts to ensure that every suffering creature finds relief, dignity, and a chance to heal.i called the help line where mr.salman coordinated with rescue team and there I met the volunteer named JAGADEESH who is expert in handling the bird and he is such a generous person who after rescuing bird(kite)he explained how to treat any injured animal when it has met with accident.even they arrive as early as their best
Their(P.F.A)presence is not transactional—it is an embodiment of kindness in its truest form. They do not ask what they will receive;they ask only what more they can give.Their work is a testament to selflessness,a rare force in a world where aid is often conditional.PFA stands as a beacon of genuine benevolence,a reminder that humanity’s greatest strength lies in its ability to care beyond itself.
Thank you,PFA, for your philanthropic dedication to these innocent, voiceless beings and for standing beside them as their voice.

Mallikas Cattery provides a truly exceptional and reassuring environment for feline care. Knowing your cat is in the hands of someone with a veterinary background, like Dr. Irfan, offers significant peace of mind. The focus on individual attention and creating a secure space for each animal is commendable. The commitment to individualized care is the real selling point.

The quality of care seems consistently high, making it a preferred option for those needing temporary feline accommodation.

I recently boarded my kitten (Fuji) at Mallika Cattery, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the exceptional care she received. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Irfan and the entire team for going above and beyond in making her feel safe, loved, and at home.
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this wasn’t just a boarding facility, it’s a haven for pets. Fuji was not only provided with nutritious, well-balanced food but also enjoyed dedicated playtime and a clean, enriching environment. The love and attention she got truly made a difference. I could tell she was happy, smelling like flowers and relaxed when I picked her up.
Dr. Irfan’s calm demeanor, expert care, and genuine affection for animals gave me complete peace of mind. Knowing she was in such capable hands made the time apart so much easier.
Highly recommend Mallika Cattery to anyone looking for a loving and professional place to leave their fur babies. Thank you again for treating my kitten like your own!

I often have to leave my boy (a 3.5-year-old cat) here for 1–3 months at a time which, in itself, speaks about how much I trust their care. They take wonderful care of his food, grooming, and overall well-being, and I get regular updates as a parent. The fact that the person in charge is a doctor, Dr. Irfan, only adds to the peace of mind. As hard as it is to be away from your baby, knowing they’re happy and in such good hands makes it so much easier.

I got my puppy from Sam on Nov 11 as his age was 44 days and i was very excited about my new kid JoyBoy. He was very healthy and active, once he was little grown everyone started mentioning this is a pure show breed and surprised to hear I got him for 28k, my friend got the same show breed white golden retriever for 35k in Hyderabad. Even whenever I have doubts or i need daycare for my puppy Sam has helped me with it. He has good quality puppies and you can trust him for your new family member.

Would def recommend to everybody.
Had the best experience! I got Aloy (Goldie) from him and as a first time pet owner I was legitimately so scared of what to expect. Sam himself came with me to the store and recommended what all to buy, sent me a whole pdfs on dos and don’ts’. What to feed, what not to feed, how to give them a bath, necessary vet appointments and kept on following up every 2 weeks. Aloy was house trained from the day I got him and it was so amazing, Sam had done all the work before giving this precious soul to me.
I got Theo(husky) after 2 weeks of getting Aloy from him and sadly both of them got sick. I immediately called Sam for help and he connected me with a few vets and kept constant follow up.
He is so passionate and caring about animals would 100/100 recommend.

One of the worst dog shelter Never ever leave any animals there.. you won’t see the animals if you go there within a week also. They will collect the money from us. And will say you will not get to see the animal again. It’s totally fishy. It’s better to leave the animals on roads then to leave them in karuna, it’s like a punishment for animals, as I think they will kill the animals..Please please don’t trust them. It’s not a good place

The place is really nice and well maintained, all the dogs, cats, birds etc are clean and well maintained, all of them are well behaved. The person showing us around was also calm, listened to what we said and answered every question which was given to her. In the end it was very nice to see my first animal shelter, which was also the first ever animal shelter in India.

I am truly, deeply indebted to Sarvoham Animal Foundation for taking in Sunny – a senior dog who was ran over by a reckless car driver. She had a fracture and a possible spinal injury. After a diagnosis from Bangalore Pet Hospital that Sunny would never be able to walk again, I was heartbroken and devastated. I did not have any idea to rehabilitate her where so that she wouldn’t have to face the dangers or fend for herself. I remember making so many calls and hearing NO. But then when i had almost given up I called Sarvoham and to my surprise, they agreed to take her in. Not just that they also said they would continue her treatment. And I was so happy that Sunny would finally have a home. I took Sunny to their shelter the very next day and OMG i cannot imagine how much she has recovered since then. Other than that there were so many dogs!!! Some were abandoned, some were injured like Sunny, some had been dumped there for years. It honestly broke my heart that humans could stoop down to this level. But then there are people like Haris sir, Dr.Asif and the other staff members who work day and night for those dogs. I am truly grateful for them to welcome Sunny with open arms and ever since Sunny has been doing well so much !!!! Thank you Sarvoham! I’m truly blessed to have found you.

I am deeply grateful to **Harish K B** and **Sarvoham Welfare Trust** for their unwavering support and guidance during a very difficult time in my life. Harish Sir not only stood by me but also instilled a sense of safety and confidence that was much needed. His immense knowledge of animal welfare laws and human rights, combined with years of hands-on experience, is truly commendable.
Sir’s expertise in legal drafting and his command over relevant laws and sections are unparalleled. When authorities hesitated and initially refused to register my FIR, it was Harish Sir who intervened with clarity, determination, and calm professionalism. He ensured that the FIR was registered with all the appropriate legal provisions, leaving no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.
Throughout the process, Harish Sir displayed exceptional patience, compassion, and mastery in his field. The dedication shown by him and Sarvoham Welfare Trust reflects their genuine commitment to justice, humanity, and the welfare of both people and animals. I will always be grateful for their tireless efforts and the difference they made in my life.

Thank you very much for accepting the street dog which met with accident.
We met a dog which was new in our street and it was not able to walk properly and skinny too.
My wife gave him food and by seeing his position we took him to doc for checkup. Doc gave him three shots daily for three days.
Next day we were about to leave for Bangalore. We tried contacting many animal foundations to ask help. None came forward, they show off only Instagram likes.
Finally, we got a reference to try with Sarvoham.
Contacted and sent the pics of dog. Within no time they accepted him and that was the happiest moment for us.
We drove with him for about 360km as govt bus weren’t accepting the pets. It’s our first drive with pet and we were excited that he is gonna get proper care from Sarvoham.
We filled his form and got chance to explore Sarvoham personally. It is so amazing and the staff is really great. They have lots of patience to treat and care and maintain them like their own pets.

Dear Sarvoham,
We would like to bring to your attention the situation of stray dogs in the areas of Jigani, bengaluru Kallubalu and Vaderamanchanahalli. These dogs are innocent and behave like little children – full of life and love. However, many people in the locality are scared of them and have started treating them with fear and hatred.
These poor souls deserve care, protection, and a safe place to live. We request the Animal Rescue Centre to kindly intervene and help rescue these stray dogs. With your support, they can get the life they truly deserve – with food, shelter, and compassion.
Please consider this as an urgent and heartfelt request. Your efforts can make a huge difference in their lives.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Warm regards,
Khushi

I want to share my experience so that others can be careful before trusting this shelter with the life of any helpless animal.
A few days ago, a small stray kitten — around 2 months old — came into my house. She looked sick and weak, so I took her to a local vet who said her bladder was full and she couldn’t urinate. The vet manually helped her release urine and gave her an injection. She ate some food and rested afterward.
I cared for her, kept her warm, and even bought medicines. I stayed up at night observing her, giving her warmth and food — she seemed to be slowly improving.
Wanting the best for her, I reached out to Krupa Loving Animals Shelter in Bangalore, hoping they would continue her care professionally. But after handing her over, I was given no proper updates. I tried calling, but my calls were ignored. Finally, they told me she had died and showed me her dead body.
I felt something wasn’t right. The kitten was weak but responsive when I handed her over — and I had seen online reviews from other people saying similar things: that the shelter often says animals have “died” after refusing calls and offering no proper care. This pattern is deeply disturbing.
You are expected to trust such places with vulnerable lives — and when that trust is broken, it hurts deeply.
I want to say this clearly:
“I trusted your shelter with a helpless, sick kitten who was slowly recovering. What happened has left me heartbroken and full of doubt, especially after reading similar complaints from others. You may ignore my calls, but you cannot ignore the truth. If any carelessness or neglect caused her death, I pray that one day you suffer from a serious illness — just like that innocent kitten suffered — and feel the same pain she went through. May God make you understand what it means to be helpless and ignored.”
I hope no other kind-hearted animal lover goes through what I went through. Please be careful before surrendering any animal to this shelter. It may cost more than you know.

They don’t have the courtesy to evn respond properly what the hell do they take care of animals a lady picked my call as I called to save a wonded stray dog and she was rude in responding then why the hell do you put it in Google and publicize if you really don’t intend to serve. Before contacting them think twice why the hell do these people have such organisations if they really don’t have the heart to do it it’s only to claim charity n make money I guess

If there were a possibility to give negative ratings in terms of ⭐ I must have given a (-ve) rating. If you care about your pets or the stray dogs you rescued and looking for treatment, I strongly suggest please don’t go there. Reason is the following based on my own experience.
I admitted an ill male dog who used to live in our residential area which about about 3 km away from the ‘Krupa Loving Animal’ center. I called then and they arranged an auto to pick up which took 800 rupees for pick only for 3 km. For the first instance I didn’t care about the money but for the only thing I was hopeful to have a good treatment. After failing to have a satisfactory communication with Krupa I made a surprise visit to Krupa after 1 week of pickup. The lady who communicate in phone call she was not there rather there was another lady who is basically in charge of the taking care of the dogs on ground (although I don’t know in which way she does that). I am summarising the commutation with her:
1) After taking my dog she told me that he is fine and you can take him from there. For the last few days the dog was doing better although the lady was on leave for the last 15 days but still she was confident about it.
2) When I asked about the medicine and the treatment he was given she told me again that she was on leave and she doesn’t know anything about it. She also didn’t not know which doctor was taking care of him. She doesn’t have any information but still she says your dog has recovered for the illness and having food.
3) I was insisted to take him back somehow.
4) When I made my mind to take him back, I asked for few medicines for future medication she denied to give it immediately and told me that she will let me know on a phone call.
I was convinced then that nither there was any treatment nor any sign of recovering. I took the dog back fron there. Just after two days he was died.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY HELPLESS ANIMAL TO THIS SHELTER!!!! By reading all the reviews I now feel guilty for leaving a stray puppy which had severe skin infection and was helpless. I didn’t do my research well and I dropped it at KRUPA thinking they would help me. Firstly, all the people here are rude. I felt something was off and I kept asking them for the updates. First few times they kept telling the dog is eating well but later just a week after I dropped the puppy they called me to inform that ” it’s not our responsibilities if the puppy dies please try to consult the puppy elsewhere if you are unsure about us” by hearing this I rushed to the shelter to have a look at puppy and take it to the vet . The owner pretended to be very nice sweet and later she points to one of the corner with blanket one and there lies my little baby who was no more. She explained it saying it had passed away just before I told her that I was arriving. At that point of the time I believed her and mourned. She was very convincing though. Later after reading all the reviews with similar stories I just realised that there are multiple stories which are so similar. The puppy had skin infection and bloating at the beginning and when the puppy had passed away she was soo skinny and looked like she was not fed at all. My heart feels heavy for taking the helpless to such organisations. I need someone to take serious action here. They are misusing shelters. This is unacceptable and are not serving voices to helpless animals. Please do not do the same mistake as me. Please take some action.

I left one of my street puppy hit and run case.he was healthy and eating well when I dropped him.
We also told her to let us know when he is unwell.
While dropping the pup and receiving donations she was good but later she showed her true colors every time I called to know about the dog she was yelling at me saying she had no time to answer any calls.one fine day I called her and she said the dog died yesterday. I feel so guilty for taking him there plz don’t ever take the pup and cats there.very untidy n rude people

Thank you Poornima ma’m for your support with helping a blind stray dog find a shelter that cares for a lost soul. We found this dog runover by an inhuman auto driver and while we did provide the initial trauma care we were looking for a permanent home. I must say that Krupa shelter was most responsive amongst the shelters that we tried to connect and more than willing to accomodate our request. Our heartfelt thanks to all the caretakers and individuals running this shelter home.

I am truly grateful to Sudha Shelter Home. I rescued a small kitten that was being attacked by a dog and reached out for help—she responded immediately. The kitten was admitted, and all the expenses were taken care of by them. She is doing such wonderful work. May God bless her abundantly.

I gave my small kitten to Sudha shelter home as I was moving out of Bangalore and could not keep it all time. I got the cat lying on road. It’s mother left it. At first my kitten was a bit afraid since it was a new environment. But now she is happy and healthy. Thanks to Sudha mam. She is doing a great work for furry friends. But she also needs donation to keep this cats and dogs healthy. I request everyone to adopt their pets from here and also give donation. We might earn a lot but our meagre donation once a year can help this unworded friends. I do ask for my cats health every now and often and they share pics and video to check they are safe so I am very happy. I wish to donate in future also here as I am seeing results and value.

I have been visiting Sudha Shelter Home since the last 2 to 3 years. Sudha mam & her daughter are very committed towards their work.
She has maintained the home in very good condition & her associates who take care of the animals are also extremely co-operative & understanding.
No doubt, she is doing an excellent job. But mere appreciation will not suffice. She needs funds to take care of the shelter – food, vaccination, medicines etc.
My sincere request to all is to contribute to her shelter on monthly basis, which will help her very much.
Pls don’t feel that I’m just advising. I’m regularly contributing to her shelter home.
She finds it difficult to manage, especially during the months from February to May (every year). So my request to all is to contribute on monthly basis so that Sudha mam will not have problem with resources.

We have given 5 cats to be taken care. They have sufficient place to take care of cats and dogs. The animals live with them as a family. Sudha mam and her team takes care of the cats and dogs very well as per our observations. They are more passionate about their service to animals. Hope they continue to do their best.

Read it all – it’s worth your heart.
There are some places that quietly do life-changing work without asking for anything in return—and Sudha Cat Shelter is one of them. Visiting this shelter was not just a visit; it was an emotional journey filled with warmth, compassion, and an overwhelming sense of love.
The first thing you notice when you walk in is the peace. Amid the soft purring and playful meows, there’s a deep sense of safety that surrounds the cats—many of whom have faced abandonment, injury, or trauma. And yet, they are healing, thriving, and learning to trust again, all because of the unconditional love given by Sudha Ma’am and her dedicated team.
Sudha Ma’am herself is a blessing to every soul she takes under her wing. You can see it in the way the cats run to her, in how she remembers each one by name, their story, their personality, their needs. It’s more than just sheltering cats—it’s a sanctuary of second chances.
Every corner of the shelter reflects care—from the clean spaces to the cozy beds and feeding areas. Every life here is treated with dignity, and every cat is considered family. It’s not easy doing what they do every single day, but they do it with grace, patience, and love that truly touches your heart.
If you ever wonder where kindness lives in this busy, often indifferent world—it lives here. I left the shelter with tears in my eyes, but also with so much hope. Hope that humanity still exists in its purest form.
Whether you’re looking to adopt, donate, or simply visit to experience the beauty of this place, please do. Places like Sudha Cat Shelter remind us that saving one animal won’t change the world—but it will change the whole world for that one animal.
Thank you, Sudha Ma’am, for being a light in the lives of so many. The world needs more people like you.
(Sudha Ma’am feeds the cats around four times a day and cares for all their needs with love. Donations of food, litter, or medicines are deeply appreciated—every little bit helps these precious lives.)

Had a kitten that lost its mother, not even 2 weeks old. We didn’t have the ability to take care of it. We contacted Sudha and on the same day she set up a pickup for the kitten. Few hours later she showed us the kitten nursing on a foster mother cat.
Really glad to have found this shelter to give the kitten a second chance.

Catalog of services offered by pet adoption centers in Bangalore
Animal Intake and Assessment
Pet adoption centers in Bangalore are responsible for the initial intake and assessment of animals. This involves a thorough examination by veterinarians to determine the animal's health, temperament, and any special needs that may require care before they are available for adoption.
Foster Care Programs
Many adoption centers operate foster care programs. This allows animals, particularly those who are young, sick, or fearful, to live in a home environment until they are ready for permanent adoption, providing socialization and individualized attention.
Spay and Neuter Services
Controlling the pet population is a key priority. Adoption centers frequently provide spay and neuter services for all animals before they are placed in adoptive homes. This practice helps prevent unwanted litters and contributes to the overall welfare of animals in the community.
Pet Health and Vaccinations
To ensure the health of adopted pets, adoption centers typically administer essential vaccinations and preventative medications. Animals are often dewormed and receive initial vaccinations against common diseases, minimizing potential health issues for new owners.
Behavioral Assessments and Training
Understanding an animal's behavior is crucial for successful placement. Adoption centers often conduct behavioral assessments and provide basic training to address potential issues and help adopters understand the animal's needs.
Adoption Counseling and Matching
Finding the perfect match between a pet and an adopter is paramount. Adoption centers provide adoption counseling and personalized matching services to ensure the animal’s and adopter's lifestyles are compatible, maximizing the chance of a lasting bond.
Lost and Found Pet Services
Supporting the community extends beyond adoptions. Adoption centers frequently offer lost and found pet services, helping reunite lost pets with their owners and providing resources for responsible pet ownership.
Community Outreach and Education
Promoting responsible pet ownership is an ongoing effort. Adoption centers engage in community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about animal welfare, encourage spaying/neutering, and promote humane treatment of all animals.
Frequently Asked Questions about Pet Adoption Centers in Bangalore
What types of animals can I typically find at adoption centers?
Pet adoption centers in Bangalore usually house a variety of animals, most commonly dogs and cats. However, you might also find rabbits, birds, and occasionally other small animals. The specific types of animals available vary depending on the center and the current needs of the animals. Many centers specialize in rescuing stray animals.
How do I find reputable pet adoption centers in Bangalore?
Finding a reputable center requires some research. Start by searching online using keywords like "pet adoption Bangalore" or "animal rescue Bangalore". Check online reviews and testimonials. You can also ask for recommendations from friends, family, or local veterinarians. Look for centers that are registered with recognized animal welfare organizations and demonstrate a commitment to animal care and welfare.
What is the adoption process like at most centers?
The adoption process typically involves several steps. First, you're likely to fill out an adoption application. Next, the center will conduct a screening process, which may include a phone interview and potentially a home visit. They want to ensure you are a responsible pet owner and can provide a suitable environment for the animal. Finally, upon approval, you'll pay an adoption fee and sign an adoption contract.
What are the common adoption fees, and what do they cover?
Adoption fees vary depending on the center and the animal's age and species. Fees usually range from ₹2,000 to ₹8,000. These fees typically cover the cost of vaccinations, deworming, sterilization/spaying, and a basic health checkup. Some centers also include microchipping in the fee.
What kind of paperwork do I need to provide?
Most adoption centers require proof of residence, such as a utility bill or rental agreement. You may also need to provide identification, such as your Aadhar card or driver's license. Some centers may ask for references or information about your lifestyle to ensure it’s suitable for pet ownership. It's best to check with the specific center beforehand about their requirements.
Are there any restrictions on who can adopt?
While adoption centers want to find loving homes for animals, there are often some restrictions. These might include age restrictions (often requiring adopters to be at least 18 years old) or limitations based on the type of housing (some centers might not allow adoptions to apartments with strict pet policies). It’s important to be upfront about your circumstances and ensure you meet the center's criteria.
What happens if the adoption doesn't work out? Can I return the animal?
Most adoption centers have a return policy, but it’s important to understand the details beforehand. Typically, you can return the animal within a specified timeframe (e.g., 7-14 days) if you're unable to care for it. However, the center may require a written explanation and may ask for a small rehoming fee. It’s best to discuss this policy during the adoption process.
What are some common health issues found in rescued animals?
Rescued animals may have a history of neglect or trauma, which can lead to various health issues. Common concerns include parasitic infections, skin conditions, respiratory problems, and behavioral issues. Adoption centers usually provide initial medical care, but you should be prepared for potential ongoing veterinary expenses.
How can I help an adoption center even if I can’t adopt a pet?
There are many ways to support adoption centers, even if you can’t adopt. You can volunteer your time to walk dogs, socialize cats, or assist with administrative tasks. You can also make a financial donation to help cover the costs of animal care. Spreading awareness about adoption is also a valuable contribution - share their social media posts and encourage others to consider adoption.
What behavioral issues are common in adopted animals, and how can I address them?
Adopted animals may exhibit behavioral issues stemming from past experiences, such as anxiety, fear aggression, or separation anxiety. Patience and positive reinforcement are key. Consider seeking guidance from a professional animal trainer or a veterinarian behaviorist to help address these issues. Creating a safe and predictable environment is also essential for their well-being.
