I contacted CA Gyan Agarwal through a reference from my friend Vishal Singh for ITR filing. He initially quoted ₹3,000, which I agreed to. After sharing my documents, Gyan sent a computation sheet and asked me to review it. I pointed out missing details like Section 80TTA and the need to bifurcate capital gains (LTCG/STCG) before and after July 23, 2024, due to the new uniform 12.5% LTCG tax rate introduced from that date. Although he mentioned that line-by-line bifurcation would NOT BE POSSIBLE, I still offered him to assist with the breakdown. We agreed to proceed. Later, after I approved the computation under the old regime, he suddenly revised his fee to ₹10,000 and i quote his lines "Professional will be 10000/- and he gave me the Gpay No thereafter". Just 2–3 days before the ITR deadline. This last-minute change was unexpected and unprofessional. We had a conference call with Vishal, where Gyan admitted, "Meri galti hai," regarding the fee miscommunication. Given the partial work done, I paid ₹1,500 but chose not to file through him. Recommendation: Please ensure fee clarity upfront when working with professionals. While I was considering a long-term engagement, this experience was disappointing and surprising merely for a few thousands. I wish Gyan the best, but hope others are cautious to avoid similar surprises.
