Shivaji Military Hotel is renowned for its authentic Maratha-style cuisine, particularly the mutton biryani. The food itself consistently receives praise for its robust flavors and quality ingredients – a testament to a long-standing commitment to traditional recipes. However, the overall experience often hinges on the challenges presented by its increasing popularity.

A significant aspect to consider is the seating arrangement. Due to limited space and high demand, a formalized queue or reservation system is absent. This frequently results in crowded conditions and waiting times, impacting the dining comfort for many. Investing in a more structured approach to managing the flow of patrons would greatly enhance the overall appeal, preserving the unique food experience.

Customer Reviews
Been going here ever since I was kid to eat the piping hot maratha style mutton pulavs and side dishes. The review is purely for the Experience, management and ambience. The food as usual is great❤️ However, my recent visit is extremely disappointing. They have gained immense popularity over social media and pretty much everyone wants to visit this amazing place to devour their delicious mutton and chicken biriyani. But the management which probably earns lakhs everyday doesn’t want to invest better on their infrastructure and manpower. They don’t have a proper queue or token system, anyone can walk in on anytime. Unfortunately you will have to stand next to table while others are still eating and others also will be standing and staring at your food while you try to enjoy your meal. Definitely a bummer. Understaffed – Very less cleaning staff and waiters, heavy delay in organising and serving customers, luckily they are not rude tho. No proper ventilation – Fans are few, windows are closed, no exhaust in the main serving room. You may feel nauseous because of no air circulation and I’m 100% damn sure your clothes smell biriyani after you come out. PS: My visit was on a Tuesday though, Either renovate the place and hire more staff or Sell only parcels. People come to Shivaji for the love of Biriyani and should go back home with a heartful experience, not just tummyfull.

Great Food, But Very Poor Dine-in Experience The food was truly amazing — full marks for the taste and authenticity. If I were to rate only the food, it would easily be 5 stars. However, the overall dining experience was quite disappointing, and that’s something I can’t ignore. I visited on a Saturday, fully expecting a crowd given the restaurant’s popularity. But a few things really stood out: The staff asked us to go and stand near people already eating, waiting for them to finish — this felt uncomfortable and almost like putting pressure on diners to vacate their seat. I understand it’s a small place, but it would be much more respectful to let people wait outside or in a designated area rather than hovering around tables. Some fellow customers were standing beside us, staring at our plates and making comments, which made the experience very awkward. I stayed silent throughout, but it definitely affected my ability to enjoy the food or eat peacefully. To be fair, the staff (aside from the seating process) were polite and courteous, which I appreciate. If you’re someone who doesn’t mind such a high-pressure, crowded environment and are going purely for the food, it might still be worth the visit. But personally, I left with a spoiled mood, which took away from what could have been a great meal.

A bucket list item, finally ticked off!|I’ve heard about this place from so many people, and I remember visiting it 10 years ago but didn’t get a chance to eat there.|Finally made it back with a bunch of cousins, and we went all out, tried almost everything on the menu!|Mutton biryani, chicken biryani, kheema balls, mutton dry, mutton liver, chicken leg, chicken dry, and chicken chops.|A few of us are from the food industry, so we ended up analyzing the food in great detail probably more than we should have, but we do it all the time!|Our personal favourite was the chicken biryani (surprising, because we’re usually hardcore mutton biryani fans). We didn’t enjoy the mutton biryani as much. The kheema mutton was excellent in both texture and flavour, the mutton liver was good, and the chicken leg gravy was quite nice too.|Please note:|On weekdays, all mutton dishes are available only after 1 PM.|On Sundays, they are available from 8 AM onwards.|A great place to enjoy some maratha-style non-vegetarian food.

Went on a Saturday..around 1 pm. Food comes in batches. If people are already eating their biryani then it’s less of a wait but otherwise you’ll have to wait. It’s a legendary place so do it once atleast. The biryani is good and mutton is flavorful and tender. They give you a gravy which is only needed if you’ve eaten all the meat already. The meat is flavorful and doesn’t need gravy or raita. They give you a salad also for cutting the fat. For starters they have the option mutton dry, chicken dry and chilli chicken(looks like andhra style). I got the mutton dry which was spicy. It was a bit dry but good enough to eat. Also this is real biryani place where you have to eat with hands. Please don’t be a tourist and ask for spoons.

We visited after hearing a lot of hype about this place. The food was decent – simple military-style mutton biryani – but honestly not worth the extremely long waiting time. We had to wait for almost 2 hours just to get a table, and the whole place was overcrowded and chaotic. Seating is very basic with no proper arrangement for managing crowds. If you’re looking for a relaxed and clean dining experience, this is not the place. Good for someone who specifically wants the old military hotel style, but definitely not worth the hype or long wait for most people. Tried once – won’t be coming back.

Heard a lot about the food and was excited to try it, but the visit was quite disappointing. There’s no proper queue or token system, so people just walk in and wait around tables, making the whole experience chaotic and uncomfortable. The staff seemed overworked, with long delays in cleaning and serving. The place was hot and poorly ventilated, which made it hard to sit and enjoy a meal. The limited timing from 8 AM to 3:30 PM only adds to the crowd. With better crowd management, more staff, and a more comfortable setup, this place could actually live up to its reputation.

There are people now-a-days searching for good non vegetarian and going places. However a word from relatives brought us here. No organisation for seat reservation. Had to wait for a long time among people like us. It looked like a choultry, who wait behind and around eating people. While eating people do their job, waiting people faces show and ask you “eat quickly”. And food quality? Do you really think it’s good after eating around this atmosphere?

I ordered Chicken Kebab and Chicken Biryani, and it turned out to be one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. The chicken was rotten, emitting foul smell that made it impossible to eat. It was clearly spoiled and should never have been served to any customer.

Break a leg!! I have ordered food in the morning a couple of times, but both times I felt that the chicken was not cooked well. Maybe in a hurry, partially cooked chicken was parcelled and sent over to me. Also, they have opened the hotel early on Zomato, but both times they delayed handing over the food to the delivered partner. Just to highlight the dishes, the Chilli Chicken was the worst. It was not cooked properly and had an odd taste. Kushka was acceptable to consume. The pepper chicken biryani was not even cooked to 50%, making it too difficult to eat. The Boti fry was overly spicy.

Nothing short of a feast – one of the best places in Malleshwaram for naati style food. We tried Mutton Pepper, Nalli Fry, Naati Koli Roast, Kaima Gojju with Idli. Every item was delicious and we struggled to select the best! Prices are quite economical and the service is top notch. Mr. Harsha was happy to recommend dishes and we will definitely come here again. Perfect 5/5!!

Had a mutton biriyani, pepper Chicken dry, 1 egg, also billed for 1 waterbottle, (no option other than water bottle). The mutton biriyani was average. The mutton pieces were Little bit okay. While eating, I found a few of the mutton pieces served in my plate did not taste as exactly as other mutton pieces and I had a strong doubt on it, so I just left that. The pepper Chicken dry was superb in taste. Boiled egg as usual good. I dont like the Ambience.

The age-old place is known to be serving since the British times, and it’s pretty document marketed well that is displayed around the hospital. The biryani was well cooked, and I tried the goat leg soup, too. Happy and feel it’s slightly pricey. However, it’s the price for history. Could it still be a great place tomorrow? I’m not sure as there are great places that are coming up all over the town, and this is slipping into history, as did the British. Slow and steady. Try this out if you like some historical meat.

Would rate 3.5 stars for the food. Mutton biriyani is good, tasty & flavourful though would have preferred it bit spicy. Chicken Pepper is a show stopper, very delicious and finger licking good. Leg soup was a damper & spoil sport. It was just like hot boiling water with some soupy gravy. Do not go for leg soup. Overall rate average/good. Had been in morning for breakfast, only few items on offer. Prices are economical.

I arrived at about 5:00 PM to find no crowd at all. I ordered chicken biryani and chicken fry, which were just average, like any regular biryani and fry. If you’re nearby, it’s fine to visit, but there are many more options available around one SG Rao’s military hotel.

I recently visited Govinda Military Hotel, which came highly recommended by many foodies. While I enjoyed the soup included in their combo offer, the rest of the meal was quite average. The flavors and presentation of the main courses were lacking, and the service was just okay. Overall, the experience didn’t live up to the hype for me.

1908 started New Govinda Rao Military Hotel, much hyped by bloggers. I had food from here many times. Always prefer combo options. But this time, combo not available for Breakfast. Ordered Pulav, Boti fry and a glass of soup. As always soup is awesome. Pulav okay this time. Boti fry is not as good as per my expectations, it is rather a Roast in nature. The leaf plates which food is being served is told as their responsibility to the nature friendly, but very sad to see that these leaves are covered with plastic wrap in the bottom side. Price side Pulav 90, Boti fry 150 and soup 30. Parking space not available.

I recently visited the newly opened Bettaiah Military, located next to the old Bettaiah Military, and it exceeded my expectations. The new location boasts more space and additional tables, making it a great spot for larger groups. Families will appreciate the separate compartments that provide a more private dining experience. Despite the expansion, the food quality remains as excellent as ever. The biryani is simply amazing—perfectly cooked with a rich blend of spices. The leg soup is a must-try, offering a burst of flavors that is both comforting and delicious.
