Been going here ever since I was kid to eat the piping hot maratha style mutton pulavs and side dishes. The review is purely for the Experience, management and ambience. The food as usual is great❤️
However, my recent visit is extremely disappointing. They have gained immense popularity over social media and pretty much everyone wants to visit this amazing place to devour their delicious mutton and chicken biriyani. But the management which probably earns lakhs everyday doesn't want to invest better on their infrastructure and manpower.
They don't have a proper queue or token system, anyone can walk in on anytime. Unfortunately you will have to stand next to table while others are still eating and others also will be standing and staring at your food while you try to enjoy your meal. Definitely a bummer.
Understaffed - Very less cleaning staff and waiters, heavy delay in organising and serving customers, luckily they are not rude tho.
No proper ventilation - Fans are few, windows are closed, no exhaust in the main serving room. You may feel nauseous because of no air circulation and I'm 100% damn sure your clothes smell biriyani after you come out.
PS: My visit was on a Tuesday though, Either renovate the place and hire more staff or Sell only parcels. People come to Shivaji for the love of Biriyani and should go back home with a heartful experience, not just tummyfull.

Great Food, But Very Poor Dine-in Experience
The food was truly amazing — full marks for the taste and authenticity. If I were to rate only the food, it would easily be 5 stars.
However, the overall dining experience was quite disappointing, and that’s something I can’t ignore.
I visited on a Saturday, fully expecting a crowd given the restaurant's popularity. But a few things really stood out:
The staff asked us to go and stand near people already eating, waiting for them to finish — this felt uncomfortable and almost like putting pressure on diners to vacate their seat.
I understand it’s a small place, but it would be much more respectful to let people wait outside or in a designated area rather than hovering around tables.
Some fellow customers were standing beside us, staring at our plates and making comments, which made the experience very awkward. I stayed silent throughout, but it definitely affected my ability to enjoy the food or eat peacefully.
To be fair, the staff (aside from the seating process) were polite and courteous, which I appreciate.
If you're someone who doesn’t mind such a high-pressure, crowded environment and are going purely for the food, it might still be worth the visit. But personally, I left with a spoiled mood, which took away from what could have been a great meal.

A bucket list item, finally ticked off!|I’ve heard about this place from so many people, and I remember visiting it 10 years ago but didn’t get a chance to eat there.|Finally made it back with a bunch of cousins, and we went all out, tried almost everything on the menu!|Mutton biryani, chicken biryani, kheema balls, mutton dry, mutton liver, chicken leg, chicken dry, and chicken chops.|A few of us are from the food industry, so we ended up analyzing the food in great detail probably more than we should have, but we do it all the time!|Our personal favourite was the chicken biryani (surprising, because we’re usually hardcore mutton biryani fans). We didn’t enjoy the mutton biryani as much. The kheema mutton was excellent in both texture and flavour, the mutton liver was good, and the chicken leg gravy was quite nice too.|Please note:|On weekdays, all mutton dishes are available only after 1 PM.|On Sundays, they are available from 8 AM onwards.|A great place to enjoy some maratha-style non-vegetarian food.

Went on a Saturday..around 1 pm. Food comes in batches. If people are already eating their biryani then it's less of a wait but otherwise you'll have to wait. It's a legendary place so do it once atleast.
The biryani is good and mutton is flavorful and tender. They give you a gravy which is only needed if you've eaten all the meat already. The meat is flavorful and doesn't need gravy or raita. They give you a salad also for cutting the fat. For starters they have the option mutton dry, chicken dry and chilli chicken(looks like andhra style). I got the mutton dry which was spicy. It was a bit dry but good enough to eat.
Also this is real biryani place where you have to eat with hands. Please don't be a tourist and ask for spoons.

We visited after hearing a lot of hype about this place. The food was decent - simple military-style mutton biryani - but honestly not worth the extremely long waiting time. We had to wait for almost 2 hours just to get a table, and the whole place was overcrowded and chaotic. Seating is very basic with no proper arrangement for managing crowds.
If you're looking for a relaxed and clean dining experience, this is not the place. Good for someone who specifically wants the old military hotel style, but definitely not worth the hype or long wait for most people. Tried once - won't be coming back.

Heard a lot about the food and was excited to try it, but the visit was quite disappointing. There’s no proper queue or token system, so people just walk in and wait around tables, making the whole experience chaotic and uncomfortable. The staff seemed overworked, with long delays in cleaning and serving. The place was hot and poorly ventilated, which made it hard to sit and enjoy a meal. The limited timing from 8 AM to 3:30 PM only adds to the crowd. With better crowd management, more staff, and a more comfortable setup, this place could actually live up to its reputation.

There are people now-a-days searching for good non vegetarian and going places. However a word from relatives brought us here. No organisation for seat reservation. Had to wait for a long time among people like us. It looked like a choultry, who wait behind and around eating people. While eating people do their job, waiting people faces show and ask you "eat quickly". And food quality? Do you really think it’s good after eating around this atmosphere?
