"Indian's Oldest Bookstore"
I love reading and was very excited to visit this oldest bookstore from the day I came across this in reels.
From the start of the bookstore till the very end, from the right to the left, every nook and corner is filled with a wide range of books.
From thrillers to horror, from fantasies to fairytale, from romance to comics, from self help to topic based books, from kids books to young adults, from Indian authors to International authors - they have it all.
You name it and they have it.
Apart from books, they also sell stationary, toys, tote bags, bookmarks and so on.
Check out the place readers, I am sure you will love it!
It's next to the MG Road metro station, so the commutation is not an issue.
Happy time! Happy reading!!

I went there reading on the net that it's the oldest bookstore in India...which I realized on the way is not true! But still thought of checking it out.
To be honest, it appeared to be just okay and more than that I felt disappointed seeing the space - its a huge place with some classy old world charm but seems to be ignored by the owners and not being upkept well.
Whenever I am in Chennai, will try the one which is the oldest!

Even though the facade says 1844 ( which is when Higginbothams first opened book shop in Chennai), Higginbotham's opened its first bookstore in Bangalore at M.G. Road (then known as South Parade) in 1905. The store was located in a two-storey Graeco-Roman-style building constructed in 1897.
Oldest book store in Bengaluru, the store is a heaven for book lovers. They also sell stationery here

This is not the oldest bookstore in India; it’s a branch of the oldest bookstore (located in Chennai). Therefore, the tag of 1844 is somewhat misleading.
For a place carrying so much heritage, it was truly disappointing. They carry an okay collection, and the focus seems to be more on stationery and toys for kids.
You can visit for its heritage, but it’s not a must-visit place—especially on Church Street, where you will find many amazing bookstores. All in all, a disappointment.

Was Visiting this iconic place for first time ..But on the face of it it seems a bit far cry from it’s past "claimed" glory -Selected but excellent collection of non fiction -No seating arrangements where one can sit and go through ..All Brick and mortar institutions like this are being challenged by E comm. Still a cozy place with old world charm .

Just bookstore ambience is good but don’t buy books there way expensive than any other book stores. No discounts also no reduction. And staff have zero knowledge of books titles exist. Coz they hire few folks based on their suitable work within the store.
